DevTeam Warns People About Updating to 2.0.1 Firmware

As you know by now the Firmware 2.0.1 for both the iPhone and iPod Touch are out and there is no jailbreak yet. As you know jailbreak allows for the activation and unlock of 2G iPhones and allows us to use 3rd party softwafe with no restrictions. The DevTeam is testing the new pwnage tool to allow us to use the new firmware 2.0.1 but they also are warning that if you have a 3G iPhone an update to 2.0.1 could mean no Unlock for the iPhone. Read below for more info.

We’ve been reading some comments in our previous post “Updates!” and certain people have been a little bit excited and hastily updated using yesterday’s iTunes update without getting the information first ;-)

If you want a quick summary of what to do go to the end of this post if not continue reading ;-)

We don’t see any major problems with the release that Apple made, but we have not released an update for PwnageTool for it as yet and therefore PwnageTool 2.0.1 will currently not work!

If you absolutely can’t wait then original (2G) iPhone owners can update using iTunes if they really need to, but you’ll lose third-party applications that rely on the Jailbreak, although it is reported that the 2G device remains activated, we have not clarified this. Read More…

    Installer 4 Beta Leaked

As You might now by now someone leaked the Installer 4 Beta to the public. Well Let me tell you that we don’t recommend the download or use this version. Since This was send to Repo owners to test their repositories with the new repository format. As of now their is no sources until The Final Version is release to the Public. Also this version is very buggy and it was done to test the repositories. If you have downloaded  Installer 4 Beta We recommend to not install it since there is nothing you could do with it and their are no sources available yet, and remember that this is not the FINAL version. So their is no point of having it unless you want to test you repository.

DevTeam Releases New Information about Their Cryptic Messages

Well Today the DevTeam released an explanation about what their cryptic messages mean, and also provided more updates about the 3G Unlock. Read Below for the full post and some screenshoots of installer 4.

We’d like to update you on what we’ve been doing for the last week or so, and to bring you up to speed with a couple of workstreams.

Things are certainly hotting up in the DevTeam with most of our members being able to obtain 3G iPhones, which means a distributed workload and lots of fun for our team members.

A week ago, we posted a screenshot of an iPhone 3G downgraded to an earlier baseband firmware.  We are able to execute unsigned code on the baseband in order to circumvent a security check, which then allows us to flash the baseband to an earlier version.  Of course, this isn’t a 3G unlock (as yet) but it is a demonstration of our ability to hand-control the baseband. GeoHot Start a new Wiki For the 3G Unlock

Back when the Iphone’s first came out a group of people started a wiki to record the progress on the jailbreak, 3rd party applications, and unlocking of the iPhone, Well this was a succes as a lot of important information got recorded for everyone to see. But the wiki went offline and all of this information was lost. Now GeoHot is doing something about it we has created a new wiki just for this purpose, The iPhone Wiki Below you can see Geohot take on this.

I see a real problem with the iPhone hacking community. Most of the knowledge about the iPhone is somewhere within the dev team. If the dev team disbands and even a minor update is made which breaks things, all we’ll have is a couple closed source tools and random information scattered around the internet. And I’ve had less and less time to work on this, so I can’t keep up anymore.

We used to have an open wiki, actually it hasn’t been open for a long time at iphone.fiveforty.net But whoever was managing it allowed it to fall apart, until it finally went offline, destroying information. I *hate* losing information. I wish I’d managed that wiki from the beginning, it’s almost too late now. Read More…
