The RipDev have released some new information on the progress of the Installer application that a lot of us miss in our new 2.0 Firmware. Below is the new information.

Hi folks! Many of you are wondering what’s up with Installer 4. No, we haven’t slowed down the work on it, and are currently in the final stages of hooking the GUI to the back-end. We will be contacting the authors of the major repositories in a few days to invite them into the testing process and to prepare for the upcoming repository changes.

Meanwhile, here’s a few actual screenshots so you can check out how the new Installer 4 will look like:

As we suggested a few hours ago, WinPwn 2.0 was released and is available for download. Follow the simple steps below to create your own custom firmware and then unlock your device.

Supports:

• WinPwn 2.0 supports both firmware 1.1.4 and 2.0
• WinPwn can be used on EDGE iPhone, iPod Touch and iPhone 3G
• Supports Boot and Restore Images
• Supports for custom Payload.

Requirements:

• Original Firmware for our devices: iPhone/iPod/3G
• WinPwn 2.0
• iTunes 7.7
• The Bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6

Guide:

1. The Firmware 2.0 requires iTunes 7.7 for it to work, then as a first step, install this update, if you have an earlier version of the software.

2. Uninstall WinPwn 1.0.0.3 RC1 if you have it installed, then proceed with the installation of WinPwn 2.0.

Winpwn has been released to the public just now, cmw has also announce that new updates will be coming soon to add some more features and to fix some bugs. We will have a Tutorial Tomorrow

UPDATE: A lot of people have reported that ipsw builder has an error and it quits. The Problem exist when users add Cydia to their custom ipsw on Windows XP. We have also experience this problem. cmw is working on the path error bug and will be releasing a new update to winpwn. We recommend to wait for a new released tomorrow. As Soon as the update is posted we will update the download links.

BigBoss and some other developers have successfully ported some of their applications to the 2.0 firmware. This 7 application have been seen in Installer before. Now they are available in Cydia and are compatible with the firmware 2.0

BossPrefs 2.0.2a. This released still has some bugs, but the main functions should work well. Some options are missing but BigBoss explains that he released BossPrefs immediately because it was the only way to enable / disable the SSH. Also the Hide Icons and Power Settings are Working

Poof 2.00. Despite that the application is integrated into BossPrefs, BigBoss has made it compatible with the fw 2.0 for all those who want to hide the icons without having to install and use BossPrefs.

The porting of NES Emulator (v.2.2.1) was done by Nervegas. The application was one of the first to be incorporated into the BigBoss Cydia Repository for 2.0 Firmware.

Geohot has been inspecting the 3G bootloader Nor Dump from TA_Mobile and he has posted his findings. Below is the full post of GeoHot:

The 3G bootloader is sig checked by the bootrom. So even removing the NOR and patching the bootloader(to remove main fw sig checks) and main firmware doesn’t work for an unlock. Big thanks to TA_Mobile for dumping the NOR and confirming this. You have some real skills.

The X-Gold 608 is the chip used. The lame “datasheet” infineon gives us shows the hardware RSA and the secure bootrom. So we have a real problem. Even if we find an unsigned code exploit, which wasn’t done for the previous two bootloaders in software(we found tricks to play with the nor), we still can’t unlock. Read More…

UPDATE 2: BigBoss has posted a tutorial for xpwn we think this procedures should not be tried by novice. Also xWpwn has been released we have tried to build a costom firmware for iPod and it work and pwning also work but we recommend waiting for winpwn.
UPDATE 3: cmw has posted in his site that winpwn will be out soon and you should wait for it.

Recently We saw a post by Nate True explaining how to use your 3G iPhone into a Laptop, PC Modem and use the 3G Network to surf the net in your PC. We gave it a try and it work flawlessly here is how we did it

As you know geohot made a post last week about yiphone and he also created a site at yiphone with a counter that made people think that he will released a jailbreak for the iPhone / iTouch 2.0 firmware. After all the waiting for pwanage tool we saw that it only included Cydia. Cydia is a good installer substitute but its more expert oriented. For those that still waiting for Installer to be available for 2.0 firmware the RipDev and Nullriver are working hard to have it done ready with all bugs cleared in one or two weeks.Here is the information taken from the blog.

As you surely know by now, Pwnage Tool 2.0 is out. And for now, it has no Installer 4.0 in it.

This is because we have decided to not release an under tested product into the wild - we don’t want any mess on the phone this time. Well it’s still not available for Windows users officially, but what you can do is follow these instructions from Kinetic-X and NightCrow then load the pre-built custom firmware image. You will have to download the image from a torrent. The details are able to be found here. You can get the 1.1.4 restore firmware image here.

Step 1: Use WinPWN 1.0 To PWN Your 1.1.4 iPhone. If you need WinPWN Get it:
Step 2: Install BootNeuter (Available Via Installer).

Pwnage 2.0 is out. This guide is for the MAC version of pwnageTool and is from BigBoss Site: sleepers.net . Here are the steps to pwning your phone. Pwnage for the MAC can be downloaded from here. The required bootloader files can be found here.

Step 1: If you are at 1.1.4 or lower, restore a fresh 2.0. If you are already at 2.0 this is not necessary. You can follow the restore guide for help on restoring in iTunes. Note: you may see “Preparing iPhone software for restore” for a very long time. Could be 10 minutes. This is normal. Don’t panic and stick with it. Note 2: If you get error 1600 you may try restore mode instead of DFU mode. It can be finicky. Try going back and forth from restore to DFU mode.

Step 2: Extract the zip file. Extract the rar file for the bootloaders and put that in your Documents folder. Load up the pwnage tool. You will see this screen so click away the warning. Note: some folks having problems loading the pwnage tool and the icon just sits there bouncing. You may try clearing your cache by deleting the {your name}/Library/Caches folder and/or /Library/Caches and reboot. You may also try booting into safe mode.

The iPhone-Dev has posted new information about the famous jailbreak program pwnage tool in their blog, and explained why they have not released it to the public.

We had hacks and exploits in our toolbox that we were pretty sure would work on the retail 3G device and not only pre-release devices (these exploits form the basis of the Jailbreak and Pwnage system) so we needed to test these out on real hardware that we’d bought in the stores, our guys in North and South America had to get hold of these devices in the usual way (by driving long distances and queuing up in the stores) and our guys in Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia needed to obtain devices from further afield (one example is a 3G device being personally couriered from Switzerland).
